Danza Moro – Andaluza

Moorish Andalusian Dance

It was in 2009, excited with the way of playing of Paco Gil, I decided to start writing for clarinet.

Each of us vibrates at different frequencies that excite us and allow us to recognize what kind of rhythms or harmonies we like more. Back to my first compositional stage, it was imperative to express myself from my Spanish roots, recreating it harmonically and rhythmically.

As I vibrate equally with the Arabic music, which undoubtedly influenced the Andalusian music as well, and having no record of Spanish solo pieces for clarinet in b, I wrote this piece with determination, to mark the beginning of my clarinet production. The process in which the music and other Andalusian arts and sciences were arabized must have been undoubtedly magical.

Subsequently, a fragment of this piece was part of “Pregón de Danza”, for clarinet and cello (2010).J. M. Guevara
