Invitation to Dance

Since its creation in 2008, the cello and clarinet duo Santor-Gilort performed some isolated concert, and two years later the duo decided to try its luck by participating in a chamber music contest. Except for one original piece, we completed the program with nice transcriptions; but we needed to have more original works to have the option to keep competing and this way expose our work and let the international audience get to know our ensemble.

Due to the scarce repertoire written for this particular group, In Christmas 2010 I decided to compose a pioneer piece intended to be a compendium of dances reflecting the Spanish essence. This piece portrays rhythms and harmonies I have listened in my hometown since I was a child. These musical elements are present everywhere: in the announcement made throughout the speakers of the town council, the town peddler, the knife sharpener man, a farruca dance or a pasodoble.

It is essentially an invitation to dance and revelry, that with a nostalgic touch it begins and ends with the call of the "Pregón", an announcement to have a good time for people of the town. Since the premiere of "Pregón de Danza" it has been performed in every concert of the duo, becoming a fundamental work of the growing repertoire for cello and clarinet.
